Making a bequest--a gift in your will--is an easy way to make a lasting impact with the Prichard Committee or other charitable organizations. You may wish to consider a “specific bequest” that can be defined as specific dollar amount or asset (e.g., shares of a specific stock, real estate, a piece of art or other item of personal property).  You can also designate a specific percentage of your estate.  You may wish to consider a “residuary bequest” that gives all or a portion of the remainder of your estate after payment of expenses and any specific bequests to other beneficiaries. Bequests may be unrestricted and provide maximum discretion to the leadership of the Prichard Committee to determine the best use of the gift in furtherance of our mission or they may be designated for a particular purpose that has special meaning to you. We encourage you to consult with our staff about your intentions to ensure that your wishes can be honored. While we also encourage you to consult with your attorney or other advisor, the following examples of suggested language may be useful. Our federal tax identification number is 61-1026214.

Specific Bequest for Unrestricted Use
“I give to the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, a nonprofit corporation with Federal Tax Identification Number 61-1026214 located at 2285 Executive Drive, Suite 120, Lexington, KY 40505, or its successor thereto, _________________________________ (insert written dollar amount, specific percentage, or description of real or personal property) for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose.”

Specific Bequest for Designated Use
“I give to the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, a nonprofit corporation with Federal Tax Identification Number 61-1026214 located at 2285 Executive Drive, Suite 120, Lexington, KY 40505, or its successor thereto, _______________________________ (insert written dollar amount, specific percentage, or description of real or personal property). This gift should be used for (insert stated purpose) if and so long as the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence determines that the need exists. If the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist or for some reason it is not possible or not prudent to administer my gift as originally intended, then the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above.”
